Rocket research

November 30, 2016

Today we researched different fin designs for our rocket to make it more aerodynamic and the flight is more stable. We decided to go with a rectangle/parallelogram shape. It is the optimum fin shape for a model rocket. The material we decided to go with is a poster-board material.

Egg and Nose Cone Research

December 1, 2016

Today we worked on our egg and nose cone research. We decided to incase the egg in an open pyramid structure with a sponge on the bottom and parachute on the top. It will be made out of straws, sponge, and a parachute. For the nose cone we decided to go with a bullet shaped nose cone to be more aerodynamic. We decided that we would 3d print our nose con , using ABS plastic.

Orthographic Drawings for the Rocket

December 2, 2016

Today, we started working on the orthographic projection drawing, as well as working on the website. We worked on getting the website to look professional and that it is used for exactly what we needed.

Changing Our Egg Contraption, and 3d Modeling

December 5,2016

Today we mostly worked on our contraption system for the egg and also our 3d model of our rocket. We decided to change our egg contraption for it to be enclosed in a sponge, with a plastic bag as the parachute. We changed the design so we did not spend as much money and to hopefully make it be the most reliable.

3d Testing our Rocket

December 6th,2016

Today we worked on our 3d model for our rocket. We 3d modeled the rocket on google sketchup, trying multiple fin and nose cone designs.

Orthographic projection drawing and 3d printing Egg Contraption System

December 7th, 2016

Today we did our Orthographic projection drawing and the measurements for the rocket. We also made small adjustments to our egg contraption 3d model. We all worked on planning the materials and also 3d printing the contraption tomorrow.

Orthographic Drawing for egg Contraption and Building Parachute

December, 8th 2016

Today we worked on making the parachute for our egg contraption. We tied string to either side of our bag, and cut a hole in the top for a little bit of air to get out. We also assigned items for each of us to bring in for our egg contraption, and worked on our orthographic drawing of the egg design

3d Modeling Nose Cone, and working on Orthographic Drawing For the HAB

december 9, 2016

Today we worked on 3d modeling different nose cones, that we can use on our rockets. Along with 3d modeling the nose con eon sketch up we worked on the orthographic HAB drawing for science.

Making Our Egg Contraption

December 12th, 2016

Today we fully buiilt our egg contraption. We cut a whole in the middle of the sponge big enough to fit the egg, and we lined it with bubble wrap. To enclose the egg,  we folded the sponge in half and duct taped the outside

testing

December 13, 2016

Today we tested our egg contraption to see if it would protect the egg. We dropped our egg contraption like we were supposed to and our egg got a slight crack in it. Once we tested it we came back to class to look an an advanced design to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Website Workday

december 14, 2016

Today we worked on our website, adding new tabs, and we also got our materials we need for the inside of our rocket.

Rocket building

December 19, 2016

Today we started to put fins on the rocket along with the nose cone. Its coming along nicely! We had to put coats of glue on to make sure things stay together.

Center of pressure

December 16, 2016

Today we had a speaker come in to explain center of pressure to us. We figured it out for our rocket.

Today we mostly worked on our contraption system for the egg and also our 3d model of our rocket. We decided to change our egg contraption so it to be enclosed in a sponge, and we used a  plastic bag as the parachute. The reason is because it would catch more air than the  small parachute. We also changed the design so we dont not spend as much money and to hopefully make it reliable.

December 6th,2016

Today we worked on our 3d model for our rocket, on google sketch, trying multiple fin and nose cone designs.

We cut a whole in the middle of the sponge big enough to fit the egg, and we lined it with bubble wrap.  We folded the sponge in half and duct taped the outside to enclose the egg, finally we put the parachute on the egg contraption, and it was ready to drop.

Testing

December 13, 2016

Today we tested our egg contraption to see if it would protect the egg. We dropped our egg contraption like we were supposed to from the bleachers, and our egg got a slight crack. Once we tested it we came back to class to look at and advanced the design to make sure it doesn't happen again. We came to the conclusion that it was because we put to much pressure on the egg, not the drop itself.

Complete redesign

January 3, 2016

Today we found out that our rocket needed to be lighter so we had to drop our weight from 4.85 to 3.00 or less. We dropped our weight to about 3.4, and we are taking a gable that it will still work with the extra .4 ounces.
